What A Waste

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

According to Rush Limbaugh, just a tiny increase in Social Security payouts results in $15,552,000,000 extra per year! That would raise SS payouts to roughly $702 billion, or nearly a third of what the Federal government spends every year.

In January, 54 million Social Security takers will receive a 2.3% ($24 a month) increase. Almost one-third of the federal budget goes to this one program, at a cost of $702 billion annually.

So if this is a full third of our federal budget, just how much money will there be available after heath care when Hillary gets elected?

It kills me when people create relative meaning to words and phrases when such words and phrases are not relative. Now I am not talking about relative terms, such as good or bad, hot or cold. That should be obvious. I hear this all the time: someone will improperly describe some thing and then attach ‘… at least it’s that way for me’, or ‘… that’s how I think of it, in my mind’. Are you hearing yourself? You are living in a land of make believe! Words (generally) have specific meanings. What enables people to communicate is a common definition for the words which we use. How else could we each know what the other is saying? I’ll write more about this later, but I just wanted to get this out there.
